Contract Competition
Wednesday, October 17, 2007

~ Just a reminder that during next weeks meeting (Tuesday, October 23) we will be having a contract competition. Everyone will divide into groups of two where you will either be assigned as a band or a record label. Then, a band and a record label will be grouped together and the competition will begin.

You will have an hour to complete the contract, and you have to approach it as an Indie label signing a new band (no past record deals). Maria developed a points system which will help us decide which contract is the "best." One band will win, and one label will win. Win What? $25 dollar gift certificates to i-tunes!

So, if you're interested in learning about how a contract is developed, and want to participate in the chance to win some free music, please come to the next meeting.

More Pro-Tools Workshops
Wednesday, October 10, 2007

~ For those who weren't at the meeting (and even those who were), we're having studio observation times on Friday, October 12th. We only have two time slots open (both from 2:30-4:00pm), so if you would like to observe in the studio, and haven't already, email me back (Mike Crofts - mc275306@ohio.edu) and I'll put you down. Just like last time, this is on a first come first serve basis. More opportunities for studio observation will present themselves throughout the year, so if you miss your chance here, don't worry!

we're hosting a Pro Tools workshop on Monday, October 15th from 7:00-9:00pm. It will be in the Macintosh lab in the RTVC (2nd Floor). It will be $1 if you're a paid member, or $5 if you're an unpaid member. You can pay when you get there (if you plan on paying member dues at the door, as well as for the Pro Tools workshop, it'll only be $10 for dues and $1 for the workshop ($11 total), instead of paying $5 for the workshop). There are 11 additional spots available for this workshop and, like the studio observation times, will be on a first come first serve basis. There will be 2 more Pro Tools workshops, one in winter quarter and one in spring quarter, so again, like the studio observation times, if you miss out, don't worry, you'll get your chance.

Contact Mike Crofts at mc275306@ohio.edu for more information.

In the Studio
Wednesday, October 3, 2007

~ The first opportunity to watch recording in the studio will be this Friday October 5th from 1-4. We will be recording bass tracks for Royce. There will be two blocks of time 1-2:30 and 2:30-4. Space is limited for observers and it will be first come first serve. Contact Mike Crofts at mc275306@ohio.edu for observation times.

Congratulations!

  • Updates
    Thursday, February 15, 2007
~We are currently in the studio recording with "Royce." Recording will hopefully be finished by the end of Spring Quarter with a release in Fall 2007. As observing sessions become available, we will make sure to let you know and post that information on the website. Also, if you have any band name ideas, send them our way. Turns out, there is another Royce on ITunes so we need to put our thinking caps on. Send your ideas to Ricky.

We are pretty excited about our upcoming show with California-native Curtis Peoples on Thursday, March 8 in the Baker Theater. There's a $5 cover at the door but the first 25 people will receive a free Curtis sampler. The show will also feature local openers Jake Householder and Peter Nischt. Have an idea for a great show? Contact our VP of Production, Teddy.

P.S. Like the new blog feature on the website? Leave us a comment :)

    Logo Contest!
    Thursday, January 4, 2007

~ We are currently holding a design contest for a new Brick City Records logo! The logo will be used in both web and print -- on the website, promotional materials, cds for bcr artists, merchandise (a t-shirt is in the works), etc. Think you got what it takes?

    Specifications

  • The Logo must include the club name: Brick City Records (you can abbreviate it to BCR, but in that case, try to incorporate "Brick City Records", perhaps in smaller text)
  • The Logo must easily translate into black and white (stick with designs that are simple and don't use too many colors - 3 at most)
  • Ideally, the logo should be 250-300dpi and must be able to be scaled to fit multiple media ( ie, don't make your graphics 100x100 pixels -- shoot for 500x500 pixels)
  • Acceptable file types: JPG, EPS, Tiff

IMPORTANT! - If you are using a graphic or photo in the logo, you MUST have permission. you can not enter 'music' into Google and steal a photo. It must be original artwork or photography.

    Old Logo

    What I need from you?

  • 2 Copies of your logo - 1 black and white, 1 color
  • Include your full name and contact information in the e-mail
  • Send them to: sales@brickcityrecords.com

There is NO LIMIT to the number of pieces you may submit. We will be picking a new design at the 2nd meeting of the quarter. Send your submissions to sales@brickcityrecords.com
