Brent Mulgrew
"In A Week's Time"

Recorded in the Winter of 2004 at Ohio University, Brent Mulgrew was the first full length album produced by Brick City Records.

Biography

Brent Mulgrew was born in Upper Arlington, Ohio, in the Columbus metropolitan area. He grew up with his parents, Brent and Susan, and his sister Morgan, who is three years his younger. Brent started to sing at a very young age, but his musical talent is unique in his family. Even though Brent was singing when most of his peers were barely walking, he wasn't inspired to start training as a musician until sibling rivalry kicked in. When he was nine years old, his sister wanted to take piano lessons, and not wanting to be bested by her, Brent decided to begin lessons as well. Two years later, at the age of 11, Brent got his first guitar. He began playing for hours on end. His passion for guitar soon took precedence over piano lessons. That passion has still not faded, ten years later.

Brent expanded his musical horizons during his senior year of high school by learning to play drums, bass and mandolin. It was at this time he began to write music, a talent as great as his singing ability. The first song he ever wrote, "Where Are You” is still a regularly requested song from his repertoire.

In college, Brent's skills have become polished, and he has realized a new facet of music: performance. His first gig was at O'Hooley's in Athens, Ohio, two years ago, and he has never looked back. He now plays extensively in Athens and draws anywhere from 150 to 225 people to his shows. He also performs twice a month at 45 East, a bar in Oxford, Ohio, near Miami University's campus. Brent's musical influences include everything from The Beatles and Stevie Ray Vaughan to Oasis and G Love. His fans liken his music to Dave Matthews, Jack Johnson and John Mayer. Complicated guitar parts and creative melodies reflect his training and talent, and his lyrics convey a deep understanding of the world around him.

While Brent's fans know him for playing solo acoustic sets, he was recently teamed up with a bass player and drummer to fill out a few of his in a weeks time tracks. Bassist Dave Schmelick and drummer Jim Johanson helped to push his music in a new direction, and Brent's taking the lead. The album was recorded entirely in the new John Storyk designed recording studio in the RTVC Building. The album release date is scheduled for May 18th.

Brent sees releasing in a weeks time as the next step in his musical career. He will graduate in June with a degree in public relations, but he hopes to keep playing music and developing his skills as well as his fan base.
